A Norfolk Southern train with cars carrying hydrochloric acid derailed Monday in Augusta County, with the early word from Virginia State Police that there was no leak of hazardous material.

The derailment, reported at 1:57 p.m. Monday, involved a train traveling northbound on a track running parallel to Route 340 in the Dooms area, about two miles north of the Waynesboro city limits.

Fifteen of the 96 cars derailed, according to VSP, and seven of the cars were carrying hydrochloric acid.
